Getting going again...

It has been two years since I posted on this blog, and really would like to somehow get it going again...  I need to see if I can set up a permanent space for the 'School Room' so that I can post every now and again without too much effort.

If anyone else out there would like to be involved in some way please let me know as the original idea for this 'school' was for it to be a joint venture.

I will see if I can set up a permanent space ready for September when the school term starts again...no promises though.

Knitting Class

Peggy Sue had her first knitting class at school today.

She was rather surprised when she sat down at her desk to find a ball of wool and some knitting needles...

...and was rather worried about what she was getting herself into.

Fortunately for the first lesson the teacher cast on the stitches as she is just teaching them the fundamentals of garter stitch to start with.

Peggy Sue was rather relieved and thinks she can manage knitting plain rows.

She works hard at it

She sticks the needle into the loop on the other needle,

..and before she knows it she has a few rows!

She can't wait to get home to tell Little Owen that she is learning how to knit!

A New Day, A New Term!

Fortunately it seems that the school has been reopened, at least for the Autumn term....

The girls stare at the basket of wool...with a slightly glazed expression on their faces....

Trying to hide her exasperation Miss Olivia Ottavia explains....

Her enthusiasm knows no bounds though!

Although the girls have yet to catch it early in the day on their first day back at school.

Peggy Sue is always optimistic.

To be continued....

School Closing

Unfortunately the initial ideas and partnership for this blog never came to fruition due to changes in circumstances and as such I ended up on my own.  I think it is probably time to close this blog down, and will have a good think about it over the next few days.  I have invested in various props to make this work and don't want them to go to 'waste' as I did spend quite a bit in obtaining them but in reality I just can't keep so many blogs going on my own along side 'real life'.  Just quite what to do I am unsure.  Possibly just keep it going as a 'Music School' is one idea.

Advent & Christmas Lesson

Miss Olivia Ottava, felt it was about time the girls had a lesson on Advent and the Christmas Season.

Miss Ottava sings some Christmas songs while the girls are working

They are amazed by the lovely colours of the cards they have got to use to make something with.

They set to work.

I wonder what they will make?

The First Instrumental Music Lessons

The girls have had their first instrumental music lesson.

Peggy Sue just couldn't wait to get started and had her 'cello out and set up before her teacher Miss Camille Capricccio arrived.

Peggy Sue learns about the four different strings and their names and then is tested on them.

She practises nice long bows on the open strings to help develop a good tone and bow control.

She looks like a natural!

Later in the day Edith has her first flute lesson.

Her teacher is Ms Fenella Fortissimo and she shows her how to hold the flute, form an embouchure and make her first tentative sounds on the flute.

Poor Edith finds it quite hard.

Ms Fortissimo suggests that Edith just practises with the head joint for the first week.  She has also told Edith how important it is not to over breath as often beginning students can end up feeling quite dizzy when learning to first make a sound on their flute.

The girls have been given a practice sheet and their first lessons.  Both girls have been asked to write a little paragraph about their instrument and to draw some diagrams showing the different parts of their instruments.
